Oppa & Omma "Selamat Pagi"

Today it such as one of meaning day. Me,sisil, accompanied kaka and family to took vacation while they were in yogyakarta. We started at 8 AM, took kaka and her family, and then we went straight to Kaliurang.

Honestly, it was my first visit, since i live here, i never ever came to this tourism area. Kaliurang is one of Merapi’s mount conservation part.But since Merapi’s eruption happened on two years ago, this tourism area had been decreased. As kaka and sisil told, eruption gave bad impact for the physic side. We can’t reach the vieweng tower on the peak of hill, because the way was closed by grasses, tree, and big stones.

When the first time we reached  the entrance gate, we met a couple.Based on look, they are foreigner. I asked them if we could took photograph or not. Surprisingly, the wife can speak indonesian. She can understood some simple indonesian words,but not the husband. Oke, next let’s called them,”oppa” and “omma”. The oppa is 78 years old, and the omma is older than him. Funny moment when i asked him about their age, he said yes totally we are far older than you. But jokingly, i asked “can i guess it please?”. He said, “of course, you can”.

And right based on my first answer, he’s 70’s. Then i asked his wife’s age, he said .”actually she is older than me, but please dont tell her”.lol. i said .”sure, i’ll keep this secret”. We both of laughed.

The story goes on. To improve our english communication skill,we talked to the oppa. He told many things.

The story is..

Both of them were born in indonesia. Omma was born in yogyakarta,and oppa was born in Jember, east java. Both of their father were headmaster in Dutch’s era in indonesia. Oppa told us that omma got the backbone’s injury. It caused the bad effect when she was in javanesse consentration camp. How’s terrible. Thats why she need medical treatment : the backbone’s injection (and i can’t imagine how hurt it is).

Their marriage life is 55 years old. I appriciate how as oki (and western basicly), they can keep it ,long everlasting. When the first time,i saw they lived as married couple so happily. They travel together on their right now age. Omma is kind woman, she’s so friendly, she can cook indonesian food well, such as “nasi goreng”, sate,ketoprak and so on.

They have four children, one of their son live in netherland. Yes, they come from netherland. Oppa can speak 3 (three) languages (except holland) : English, Germany, and France. But he’s not good enough in indonesian. He ruined bussiness (but we didnt ask further).

I remember the most important point of what he told : “your country has different things indeed. That’s point. It has many islands, big teritory area, but it has many cultures. It’s a challenge ho to make them all being united. United in Diversity”

Lastly, when we had to go, i gave them my business name card “Legoo Tour & Travel”. He asked “is it your private number”? (he pointed my number on the card”. I replied. “yes”. And he adviced : “it should not your private number, but you should use your official office number.

He also asked, “Where is the location ?” I said “Yogyakarta”.

And he adviced again : “You should put it on this” (pointed the empty space of name card”.

Woooow...i thanksful for the correction.

Last, he told us : “you have to keep promise to me, you guys have to success, study hard and work to build your own country”

And what did i felt at that moment ?

Sure, we’ll do it,sir !
